Automation and Controls Systems Engineering
Complete Projects or Anything in Between
Project Work
Saga Automation can apply years of experience to carry a project from intial concept to successful completion. We use resources like our engineers, electrical contractors, panel shops and other key resources to deliver excellence.
Short term Automation Engineer Staffing
Many of our clients are doing work where they need an automation engineer for a few weeks to a couple months. Our engineers have worked in plants for years as staff engineers and can fill this role.
Complete Projects started by others
Sometimes our clients hire Saga Automation because their previous integrator is not doing the job expected or is charging too much. We can pick up where they left off and guide your task to completion.
On Call Automation Troubleshooting and Support
The most common call to Saga Automation is from people who need help with the automation they already have. They need guidance and expertise for a few hours to a couple days. We build relationships by taking these calls at all hours of day and night.
Saga Automation Small Project Examples
Saga Automation has had many small projects where we only bill for a few hours to a week’s worth of time. Click on the items below to expand any you are interested in finding out more.
Cosmetics Company Filler Automation
Small cosmetics company bought a very simple 6 head bottle filler from China. Their machinist mounted the conveyor to it and added a few photoeyes. Their previous systems integrator shipped them a control panel, but never made the time to come out and program it. Tom Ludwig went to the customer site one day to see the machine and scheduled a return visit. In six hours he programmed a single screen on the HMI and a 10 rung ladder logic program, and then tested the filler with water. Customer was pleased with programming. Rockwell Automation Micro PLC and HMI were used.
Oven Wiring and Programming
A company that supplies ovens for metals reclamation was trying to get an oven commissioned at a customer site. They had some wiring issues that Saga Automation was able to correct. Next the temperature controller from West needed final configuration through parameter setting. Customer then asked for some programming updates on the Red Lion HMI and the Automation Direct PLC. Took about 4 partial day visits to resolve all these issues.
Gas Station with Underground Tank Spill Remediation
Never knew this but old gas station tanks were single wall and when they ruptured, California requires remediation. This gas station had hired a company that specialized in a pumping and burner system that could burn this gas off. However after several years of this system’s operation the burner management system by Honeywell failed and needed to be replaced. They called Saga Automation to help replace the obsolete Honeywell burner management system. He helped get it wired, and then Honeywell field service rep came out and programmed it. About 5 visits to the site for 2-6 hours each.
Garden Tool Manufacturer
This manufacturing plant for garden tools was building their own new machine (copying a machine they already had) to put the hole in the top of a rake handle. The machine would take the 5 foot long handle and clamp onto the piece and then a drill would plunge down and cut the hole. When Tom Ludwig got to the location the maintenance technician that had built the machine told Tom that he was several weeks overdue on finishing this machine, and the boss was pressuring him to finish. The wiring was mostly there, but had one power wire that would short to ground when the sensor was on, then the Automation Direct PLC program needed a few program changes as well. It was done and tested in four hours.
